The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued a final rule to update construction signage standards recently. The new regulation adds references to the latest versions of the American National Standards Institute, or ANSI, on accident prevention with signs and tags.

The new references to the old ANSI standards will remain in the regulation, but workers will now have the option to follow the new rules on signage or to continue to follow the old ones. In addition, the new rule incorporates a portion of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 1988 edition, into the construction standards. More specifically Part VI of Revision 3 will now be applied.

The new rules have an effective date of September 11, 2013.
