The Hoover Dam is still considered one of the most impressive engineering and construction accomplishments of all time. Relying on the largest known reservoir in the United States, it provides massive amounts of hydroelectric power to the power grid. But it was not always called the Hoover Dam.

Vote Pennsylvania!

It’s primary election day in Pennsylvania.  The ballot includes choices for governor and luetenant govnernor, Congress, state representative, and others.  Voting is a special privilege that many in the world do not enjoy.  Our elected officals have a huge impact on the economy at large and, specifically, the construction industry.  So get out and vote today!

NEW AMNESTY PERIOD FOR UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIM DEBTORS OFFERS AN “OUT” BEFORE ENFORCEMENT OF DEBTS

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry recently rolled out a new program called “Make it Right”, which offers amnesty to both individuals who owe money for unemployment compensation overpayments and to businesses that are delinquent in unemployment compensation tax payments. The program, which established and authorized the Unemployment Compensation Amnesty Program (Amnesty Program) in June 2012, is an attempt to regain $356 million currently owed to the UC Fund. It will run from June 1, 2013 to August 31, 2013.

Third Circuit Applies “Reasonable Time” Standard For Missed Completion Date

The United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit recently affirmed 3 orders issued by the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the net effect of which was to uphold a finding that a defined completion date in a construction contract must be completed in a reasonable amount of time if change order work results in the original deadline being missed. The ruling confirmed an award of $422,923.83 in breach of contract damages and $539,521.15 in attorneys’ fees.
