Did You Know – Construction Style

Did you know that the John Hancock Life Insurance Company has 2 full time spotters for its office building in Boston, Massachusetts? These two employees do nothing but watch the building to warn people of falling windows.

The John Hancock Tower was constructed in 1972. Shortly after its completion, windows began to unexpectedly pop out of the building and fall to the sidewalk below. These windows, which are 4 feet by 11 feet in size, are not miniscule by any stretch of the imagination. No real explanation could be found for why the windows were popping out of the building. This was the case even after the company replaced every window in the building in an effort to fix the problem.

As a result, there are two observers who watch the building every day to warn pedestrians below if a window pops out.
